Text 18 Jun 1 note The problems that you see…

“When we see problems as opportunities for growth, we tap a source of knowledge within ourselves which carries us through.”   - Marsha Sinetar

Problems are never pleasant. Yet most of the time, they are unavoidable. Unknowingly though, problems open doors for us – doors that present us with opportunities, which make us realize that these are mere challenges which we can overcome.

A man would say that he’s not living a good life if he’s not faced by problems, and the same goes with a society. Since all societies are imperfect, it is undeniable that it will be faced with challenges and it will not improve unless it sees its own problems as opportunities for growth, for change to happen.

Change, most of the time, is what we need to resolve a problem. As the saying goes, the only constant thing in the world is change. And yes, we’re surely living in a changing world. In societies, change is necessary. We need social change to address social issues, and we need positive change that can mold better and empowered citizens.

Man’s only aim is improvement of oneself, of one’s state of life. It is through development that we’re led to where we want to be. Without a doubt, development helps us realize the value of one’s society to one’s betterment. Indeed, we need the society to uplift us as a whole.

In a socmar or socmob program, it is imperative to involve the people in the development process. Participatory development will surely touch not only the leaders, but the members of the community, too. They will feel more valued, and in effect, they will act more responsible and more attached to the cause. They will claim it. They will OWN it. And this our most powerful driving force, our weapon for social change and development.
